Reliable Freight Forwarder UAE

Packaging Solutions from a Reliable Freight Forwarder UAE

The right packaging isn’t just protection, it’s compliance, safety, and customs readiness. Here’s how IMEX Cargo ensures every shipment is packed to move.

Packaging Is Part of the shipment, not an Afterthought

International freight moves through multiple handling points, warehouses, cargo terminals, aircraft holds, container ships, and customs inspection bays. Each transition is a stress test. Packaging that holds together in a Dubai warehouse may not survive a sea voyage or a 14-hour flight in a pressurised cargo hold.

At IMEX Cargo, professional packaging is a built-in service, not an optional add-on. Operating from our JAFZA facility in Dubai, our team handles everything from standard commercial cargo packing and labelling to specialist packaging for dangerous goods, fragile items, temperature-sensitive products, and oversized machinery, fully aligned with Dubai Customs and IATA requirements.

01. Does IMEX Cargo provide professional packaging services?

Yes. IMEX Cargo provides full professional packaging at our JAFZA Dubai facility  , from standard commercial cargo packing to specialist solutions for dangerous goods, fragile items, oversized cargo, and temperature-sensitive shipments.

Every package leaves our facility with accurate cargo markings, hazard labels where required, and documentation aligned with Dubai Customs and IATA standards. Packaging isn’t an afterthought at IMEX; it’s the first step in a compliant shipment.

02. What types of cargo can IMEX pack and ship?

IMEX handles a wide range of cargo types, each with appropriate packaging:
  • Standard commercial goods: boxed, palletised, and labelled for air, sea, or land.
  • Dangerous goods (DG): perfumes, aerosols, lithium batteries, chemicals, and flammable liquids, using UN-certified packaging per IATA DGR.
  • Temperature-sensitive cargo: pharmaceuticals, perishables, and medical supplies in insulated, cold-chain-appropriate packaging.
  • Fragile and high-value goods: electronics, instruments, and glassware with custom foam, cushioning, and tamper-evident sealing.
  • Oversized and project cargo: heavy machinery and industrial equipment with lashing, bracing, and custom crating.

03. Why does packaging size affect my shipping cost?

Airlines and shipping lines charge based on chargeable weight, whichever is greater between actual gross weight (cargo + all packaging + pallets) and volumetric weight (calculated from package dimensions).

Oversized or poorly optimised packaging inflates volumetric weight and increases your freight cost even when the goods themselves are light. Our team optimises package dimensions and material selection to protect your cargo while keeping chargeable weight as low as possible for saving you on every shipment.

04. Can IMEX pack and ship dangerous goods like perfumes, aerosols, or lithium batteries?

Yes. IMEX is certified to handle all classes of dangerous goods. We use UN-specification packaging compliant with current IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and UAE GCAA CAR Part VI requirements for airfreight.

Incorrect DG packaging is one of the most common reasons airlines reject cargo at acceptance, often resulting in delays, repacking costs, and missed flights. Our DG-certified team eliminates that risk.

05. What packaging standards does IMEX follow for air and sea cargo?

Air freight: IATA DGR packing instructions, UAE GCAA Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR Part VI), and Dubai Customs marking and labelling requirements. Hazard labels must be a minimum 100 mm × 100 mm per Dubai Municipality’s Code of Practice for DG Management.

Sea freight: IMO IMDG Code for dangerous goods, standard maritime securing requirements for Jebel Ali Port operations, and Dubai Customs documentation standards.

All cargo: ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology) product labelling standards for goods traded in or exported from the UAE.

06. How does packaging directly affect customs clearance in Dubai?

More than most businesses realise. Dubai Customs requires that all cargo packaging, markings, and declarations be fully consistent with each other. Discrepancies between the packing list, package markings, and customs declaration or missing hazard labels on DG cargo trigger secondary inspections, holds, or fines.

Because IMEX handles packaging and customs documentation together, both are always aligned. There’s no gap between what’s on the box and what’s declared to customs, which is one of the most reliable ways to ensure fast clearance.
